Carnevale di Venezia
The carnival of Venice is one of the most famous in the world and its origins are really ancient. The celebration begins on the “martedì grasso” (40 days before Easter) to end within 2 weeks. In these joyful days the city becomes a real stage for lots of folkloristic and cultural events: everybody can join them eating “chiacchere”, a very traditional sweet of this particular period. The main event consist in people wearing fine and colorful handmade masks, dresses of famous characters like Pulcinella, Arlecchino and so on. On saturday in particular a lot of “Gondole” and Carnival floats, made up for the parade, invade the streets and the canals throwing confettis and shooting fireworks.
Palio di Siena
This event took place a very long time ago, when the city of Siena had been divided into 17 rioni for Bando di Violante di Baviera’s will. The main event consists in a horse race (with or without a rider) located in the main square of the city. At the end of the competition, the winning rione and the proud horse can receive the award and take it into the rione’s church.
